A song for St. Joseph's feast day

Happy Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Yes, we are allowed to have meat today, and I have a lovely leg of lamb roasting in the oven; potatoes and carrots are roasting in their own dishes, potatoes with a sprinkling of olive oil and some garlic and herbs, carrots with butter and basil. Even if you're not eating meat, do celebrate--our dear heavenly friend is being honored as he gives glory to God!

There's a beautiful song in honor of Saint Joseph which is particularly fitting for today. Listen to it here (click the button for the MIDI file); the lyrics are below:

O blessed Saint Joseph, how great was thy worth,
The one chosen shadow of God upon earth,
The father of Jesus! Ah, then, wilt thou be,
Sweet spouse of our Lady! a father to me?

For thou to the pilgrim art father and guide,
And Jesus and Mary felt safe by thy side;
Ah, blessed Saint Joseph, how safe I should be,
Sweet spouse of our Lady! if thou wert with me!

When the treasures of God were unsheltered on earth,
Safekeeping was found for them both in thy worth:
O father of Jesus, be father to me,
Sweet spouse of our Lady! and I will love thee.

Hello from Japan.
The melody of the song is quite popular among Japanese Catholics. But we sing it in Japanese as Marian hymn. I'm very pleased to know that I can praise the Blessed Virgin and Her Glorious Spouse, singing it in English and Japanese!

Barney, that's wonderful! My husband speaks a little Japanese--do you know if the Japanese lyrics are available online anywhere?

the hymn number is 302.
The title in Japanese is Amatsu Mihaha (Our Mother in Heaven).
When I was a kid in 80's, we often sang this song and other songs for Our Blessed Mother or Saints. But now... alas, I seldom hear or sing these quaint and simple devotional songs.

Thank you so much, Barney! It is a shame that these songs aren't heard as often as they used to be. But perhaps we can teach them to those who have never heard them, and they will be sung at Mass again soon.

Hi there, we were looking for a fitting Hymn to St Joseph, the Husband of Mary to be sung in our Friary as the Recessional Hymn after Mass for tomorrow. We were trying to search online. And somehow, St Joseph, seeing us so desperate for a song, helped us to find this song and the MIDI file. We are so glad that God is using you to grant our wish, ofcourse, through the intercession of St Joseph. Thank you, Have a blessed day!
