Sacred Heart Month

So, President Obama declared June to be a month for sexual minorities to be proud of themselves--or, as the Curt Jester, who's got a great take on this, says, Obama declared June to be sexual deviancy month. I join the Jester in wondering when "Adultery Pride Month" is. Heck, add in "Fornication Pride," "Porn-users' Pride" and "Polygamy Pride" months, and you've covered everybody but the boringly chaste, whether celibate outside marriage or monogamous inside of it.

Of course, as we Catholics know, June is actually the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Given that complaints by Jansenist-influenced people at the dawn of this devotion was that it was just too carnal to be thinking about Our Lord's actual, physical Heart, I think the Sacred Heart is the perfect devotion to turn to in the midst of our sinfully carnal and deviant world.

St. Margaret Mary Alocoque, sometimes called the "Apostle of the Sacred Heart" because her visions of Our Lord led to this great devotion, wrote this short prayer to be said many times a day:

Invocation to the Sacred Heart

O Heart of love, I put all my trust in Thee; for I fear all things from my own weakness, but I hope for all things from Thy goodness. Amen.

I invite those Catholics who read this blog (and anyone else who wishes to do so) to join me in saying this little prayer daily for the month of June, particularly for the intention that those who are afflicted with same-sex or other deviant sexual desires find the strength and courage to follow Christ in all things.

Saying this prayer is a great idea. I'll join in insofar as I can remember to pray it.

BTW, you forgot Incestuous Pride. ;)

Oh, Helene! Now I'm going to have the Parents and Friends and Family of Incestuous Lovers (PFFIL) group after me.

Thanks for the suggestion, Red. If nothing else productive, we Catholics can pray...and, maybe others will join in, as well.

It's funny how those who are excluded in some way get a whole month dedicated to them. I doubt this is the best way to affirm certain groups, assuming they need affirmation. Also, how far does it go?

The Catholic Church has the right idea when they devote a month or a year to certain fundamental aspects of the faith.

I expect I will vote for Obama again in 2012, but this is a dumb idea. To be fair, so are most of the other days, weeks, and months that politicians declare, to ingratiate themselves with some voting block or other.

Just because someone has a right to make a personal choice doesn't mean their choice is entitled to public recognition. Just because Johnny and Jimmy are proud of their couplehood, doesn't mean I have to respect it. And what business of the president's is it to say that we are or are not proud of any personal choice?

We thank God for the Catholic church and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I pray that God may touch the hearts of the disciples of unholy sex so that they can see the seeds of illegitimate children, STDs, promiscuity, teenage pregnancies and so many other ills they are sowing.
